Originally made with bourbon whiskey, the Whiskey Smash is a minty version of a Whiskey Sour that was first created by legendary bartender Dale DeGroff at the Rainbow Room in New York during the late 1990s.

London bar Homeboy specialise in all things Irish, so their version has an Irish Whiskey base. They’ve twisted it even further by adding a touch of dry vermouth and introducing spinach along with the mint.

The result? A drink that’s super green, and super tasty. Popeye would love it.

It’s made here by Homeboy co-owner Aaron Wall.

Recipe: –

40ml Irish Whiskey
20ml Dry Vermouth
20ml Mint & Spinach Syrup
3 dashes Orange Bitters

Shake with ice and fine strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.

Garnish with a mint sprig.
